What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legislative Intern (Volunteer) position at Alliance for American Leadership (A4AL)?
Description:
The Alliance for American Leadership (A4AL) is a bipartisan coalition of national security experts and young professionals committed to restoring American credibility and effectiveness abroad through effective international assistance. We are currently seeking a legislative intern to meet with congressional staff, provide administrative support, and support political campaigns. This position is ideal for someone interested in the nuts and bolts of legislative advocacy and looking to gain exposure to how a mission-driven organization supports its government relations work behind the scenes.
Responsibilities:
The Legislative Intern will help maintain internal tracking systems for congressional engagement, including logs of outreach, meetings, and follow-up. They will meet with staffers, recruit advocates to join the Alliance, and support endorsed campaigns through field organizing. Additional responsibilities may include note-taking during virtual briefings or committee hearings, formatting and proofreading memos, and coordinating internal document storage to ensure consistency and accessibility.
Qualifications:
We’re looking for candidates who are reliable, detail-oriented, and organized, with strong written communication skills. An interest in Congress, foreign policy, or nonprofit advocacy is helpful, but no prior policy experience is required.
This is a fully remote, volunteer position with flexible hours. DMV-based interns may be asked to assist with in-person events such as Hill Days or advocacy meetings on an as-needed basis.
