Qualifications

  • Master's Degree with 5 years teaching experience, seminar or coursework regarding exceptional children or gifted education preferred, but not required. Minimum, Bachelor's degree in education
  • Hold a valid and current Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate (PE).
  • Coursework specific to gifted education, preferred.
  • Satisfactory work record & criminal/child abuse clearances (Acts 34, 114, and 151).
  • Such additional or alternatives to the above qualifications as the board or superintendents may determine appropriate and acceptable.

Summary

Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Special Education the gifted program facilitator will facilitate district-wide screening, identification and service of delivery of gifted support services to students meeting eligibility of giftedness. The gifted program facilitator will work indirectly with students in grades K-12 by providing guided support and professional development to the general education teacher through demonstration lessons and guided practice targeted to meet the needs of the exceptional learner. demonstration lessons and guided practice targeted to meet the needs of the exceptional learner. The gifted program facilitator will assist in maintaining compliance requirements of PA Code 22, Chapter 16. The gifted program facilitator will coordinate and manage the GIEP development within state guidelines.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Support the development of gifted individual educational plans (GIEPs), District-wide.
  • Communicate with District principals, teachers and parents regarding the process of eligibility and program delivery in students' home schools.
  • Provide demonstration lessons and suggested resources for classroom teachers.
  • Develop and deliver workshops that support the Pathways to Success for high achieving students, differentiated curriculum, higher order thinking skills and Chapter 16 regulations.
  • Participate in District initiatives with colleague teachers, parents, principals or administrators that promote the Pathways to Success.
  • Coordinate GIEP meetings for students meeting gifted eligibility and dually identified gifted students with building-based team.
  • Understand and facilitate the gifted identification process and the compliance with Chapter 16 GIEP development requirements.
  • Participate in the development of common grouping and delivery for gifted/high achieving classes across the district.
  • Promote student participation in enrichment activities, for example: History Day, Odyssey of the Mind, Math League, Oratorical Contests, and Science Fair, etc.
  • Promote participation in Advanced Placement, dual enrollment, cyber and independent study opportunities for qualifying students.
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices in gifted education through participation in professional conferences, networking with other professionals in the field and through personal study.
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned or delegated by the Director of Special Education.
