Senior Project Engineer

Overview

The Senior Project Engineer serves as the primary technical liaison between customers, internal engineering teams, sales, and production. This role is responsible for translating customer requirements into actionable engineering deliverables, ensuring accurate order entry, coordinating production readiness, and managing project execution from kickoff through installation. The Senior Project Engineer drives project success by combining strong technical expertise with disciplined project management and a deep understanding of cost, margin, and operational efficiency.


Key Responsibilities

Customer & Technical Interface

  • Lead technical discussions with customers to clarify requirements, specifications, and performance expectations.
  • Translate customer needs into detailed engineering documentation, scope definitions, and internal work instructions.
  • Provide technical guidance and support throughout the project lifecycle, including design reviews, change requests, and installation planning.

Internal Engineering & Cross‑Functional Coordination

  • Collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, production planning, and quality teams to ensure customer requirements are fully understood and achievable.
  • Review and approve engineering deliverables, ensuring alignment with customer specifications and internal standards.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and technical issues to internal stakeholders and leadership.

Order Management & Production Readiness

  • Ensure sales orders are accurately entered with complete technical details, configurations, and customer requirements.
  • Notify production teams of upcoming builds, providing all necessary documentation, timelines, and technical clarifications.
  • Monitor production progress and proactively address issues that may impact schedule, cost, or quality.

Project Management & Execution

  • Lead regular update meetings with customers and internal teams, providing clear status reports, action items, and timelines.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, including engineering milestones, production timelines, and installation dates.
  • Coordinate installation activities, ensuring resources, materials, and customer site readiness are aligned.
  • Utilize project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet, Jira, Asana) to track tasks, risks, and deliverables.

Financial & Margin Awareness

  • Understand project cost drivers and ensure engineering decisions support margin targets.
  • Identify scope changes and work with sales or account management to process change orders when needed.
  • Monitor project budgets and contribute to cost‑reduction or efficiency initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related field).
  • 10 years of experience in project engineering, applications engineering, or technical project management.
  • Strong customer‑facing communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Proficiency with project management tools and methodologies.
  • Experience working with production/manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of cost structures, margin requirements, and commercial impacts of engineering decisions.
