Responsible for the inspection, servicing, repair and preventative maintenance of outboard systems across the fleet. The Outboard Mechanic effectively diagnoses engine problems and coordinates repairs. This role performs installation, repair and engine overhauls in accordance with technical manuals and company policies.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, fuel system and ignition issues on outboard engines.

Repair and replace engine components including powerheads, lower units, fuel systems and electrical systems.

Perform oil and gear lube changes, spark plug replacement and filter changes.

Perform belt inspections and cooling system service.

Winterize and de-winterize engines.

Inspect and service propellors, trim/tilt systems and corrosion control components.

Install and rig outboard engines.

Service steering systems (hydraulic and mechanical), gauges, control cables and onboard electrical components.

Conduct sea trials to verify repairs.

Maintain accurate work logs.

Assist with inventory and parts ordering.

Special projects may be assigned as required by the business.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)

High School Diploma or equivalent.

5 years of experience with hands-on servicing and repair of outboard motors.

Experience with Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda and Mercury outboards.

Proficiency in marine electrical systems, hydraulics and steering systems.

Competent with computerized diagnostic equipment.

Valid US drivers license and a clean driving record.

Must pass a security background check and DOT drug test.

Preferred Qualifications

Manufacturer certifications or formal training from an accredited mechanic or marine technician school (Yamaha, Mercury, Honda, Suzuki).

Experience working on commercial passenger vessels or in a high-use fleet environment.

Ability to walk on uneven deck surfaces crossing from vessel to vessel.

Ability to repeatedly climb vertical ladders.

Regularly required to talk, hear or smell.

Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle and feel.

Regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.

This is a fast-paced and dynamic work environment with a diverse workforce.

Ability to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays during the tour season.
