About the Opportunity
We are working with an established General Contractor in Chicago that is looking to add a Junior Estimator to its growing preconstruction team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their construction career who is looking to develop their estimating skills, gain exposure to a variety of commercial projects, and progress within a supportive team.
The company delivers projects across commercial, healthcare, education, multifamily, and industrial sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing detailed cost estimates for commercial construction projects.
- Review architectural drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for materials, labor, and equipment.
- Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Support senior estimators with bid preparation and submissions.
- Identify potential project risks, cost-saving opportunities, and scope gaps.
- Maintain accurate estimating documentation and historical cost data.
- Collaborate with project managers and preconstruction teams throughout the bidding process.
Requirements
- 0–3 years of experience in construction estimating or a related role.
- Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience with a General Contractor is advantageous.
- Basic understanding of construction drawings, materials, and methods.
- Familiarity with Bluebeam, PlanSwift, OST, or similar estimating software is beneficial.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Good communication skills and willingness to learn.
