Position Summary
This is entry level technical work in the field of air quality monitoring.
Air Quality Electronic Technicians maintain field sampling and monitoring equipment that is used primarily for the air monitoring network. This work involves calibrating, maintaining and operating electronic and air sampling and air monitoring equipment in accordance with monitoring standards. Supervision is received from the Air Monitoring Field Operations supervisor. Initially under close support of senior technicians and management, incumbents perform a limited variety of detection, monitoring and analytical duties as they gain knowledge and expertise. Work assignments gradually become broader in scope; assignments are more varied and are performed under more general supervision. Incumbents have opportunity to advance to the Air Quality Electronic Technician II level after gaining experience and achieving proficiency which meet the requirements for the higher level and a vacant Air Quality Electronic Technician 2 position becomes available.

- Calibrates, installs, maintains and operates gaseous and particulate electronic analyzers and sampling equipment, among others, used in obtaining air quality measurements. Repairs and makes replacement parts used in field sampling and electronic air monitoring programs.
- Selects specific locations for air sampling equipment in conjunction with air monitoring programs.
- Performs quality control procedures, routine maintenance, and repair work on air monitoring equipment.
- Designs simple electronic instrumentation of a specialized nature.
- Maintains records and prepares technical reports and analyses.
- Performs related work.
- Contribute to the implementation of the Air Quality Program's goals and objectives by applying principles and procedures included in quality assurance project plans and standard operating procedures during routine maintenance and operation of air monitors, air samplers, data logging systems and meteorological towers/sensor at assigned locations
- Support the continuous improvement of program performance through technical activities such as diagnosing and repairing the various types of air monitors and electronic equipment in in the air monitoring network
- Follow sampling schedules to successfully install and retrieve sample filters, program samplers to collect air samples while collecting essential data relating to sampler performance
- Understand operational principles of all monitor types in use in the monitoring network
- Program dataloggers used at continuous air monitoring stations. Work with staff to ensure datalogger tables and network settings are compatible with the central data polling system
- Incorporate ethical standards of practice and professional manner into all interactions with individuals, organizations, and communities. Gain necessary security clearances and maintain relationships to assure continued access to air monitors in schools and public or private buildings or properties.
- Drive a County owned or personal vehicle to routinely travel to various air monitoring stations throughout Allegheny County
- Responds to Public Health emergencies as assigned by the Health Department.
- Performs other duties as required or requested.
