Position Summary

This is work of a professional nature designed to do work planning, promoting public health initiatives, implementing public health programming and evaluating program activities and implementation.

An employee in this class is responsible for providing assistance and guidance to partners and organizations involved in program implementation. Key responsibilities may involve assisting supervisors with the development and implementation of in-service training programs and reviewing and revising program-related protocols. Work is under the direction of a Public Health Administrator and is in accordance with applicable regulations and policies. Public Health Representatives may serve as peer coaches to one another, to promote teamwork and experiential learning. Performance is appraised through annual performance evaluations.

Duties

  • Performs investigations in Allegheny County and ensures treatment for individuals who have been at risk for chronic or communicable diseases.
  • Enters demographic and other related patient information into data collection systems.
  • Performs required record searches.
  • Disseminates instructional and informational material on disease control to the general public, and private agencies, which may involve one-on-one education sessions
  • Performs investigative field work to bring to medical evaluation and treatment, or return to treatment, patients at risk of having a chronic or communicable disease or patients who have lapsed from a treatment regime.
  • Follows up with patients to ensure compliance with a treatment regime and reports on the efficacy of the treatment regime. Complex cases are investigated in collaboration with the Public Health Program Representative Supervisor
  • Locates patients exposed to, or who have, a chronic or communicable disease, and refers them and their contacts to an appropriate facility for treatment.
  • Counsels patients to take appropriate precautions to halt the spread of disease and avoid the complications of untreated infections.
  • Completes mandated disease reporting and analyzes medical and epidemiological information for all cases.
  • May perform pre- and post-test counseling and testing of those requesting screening for particular communicable diseases.
  • Responds to Public Health emergencies as assigned by the Health Department.
  • Performs other duties as required or requested.

  • Respond to public health emergencies.


Residency: Allegheny County within 1 year.
