ROLE TITLE: Public Safety Communications Officer
POSITION REPORTS TO: Public Safety Communication and Operations Manager
Summary of Position
The Public Safety Communication Officer is an essential member of the Public Safety Team. The Communication Officer answers phones, determines the resources necessary to handle incidents, and dispatches officers and other resources as needed. The ability to work in stressful situations and the ability to maintain confidential information is required. Must be able to work various shifts.
As Public Safety Communications Officer, you will:
- Call taking/Dispatching -Operates the phone/switchboard, radios, sirens, fire alarm systems, card access system, security camera system, and other public safety software. Enters required information into the dispatch software. Assigns incidents to officers and requests additional resources as needed. Provides professional quality service to the community. Fields complaints from the public.
- Office Operations - Monitors the Public Safety email account and addresses incoming emails by directing the task to the correct team member. Responds to email inquiries on behalf of the Public Safety Department. Assists in maintaining the lost and found. Maintains files in accordance with federal and college retention policies.
- Security Cameras - Passively monitors the security camera monitors. Reviews videos and makes copies of videos at the direction of a supervisor when necessary..
- Motor pool - Signs out motor pool vehicles and signs in motor pool vehicles. Schedules motor pool vehicles when necessary.
- Key Control - Maintains the spare housing keys and ensures the keys are signed out and returned properly. Maintains keys for academic and administrative buildings. Signs out keys to students, contractors, and others as necessary.
- Parking Passes - Issues parking passes and enters pass holder information into Informer. Files parking tickets and enters billing information.

Experience and Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree preferred, but will consider years of relative experience in lieu of preferred degree.
- Must be organized and demonstrate the ability to perform tasks and maintain composure during stressful situations.
- Must have the ability to work well with a diverse group of colleagues and groups.
- High level of customer relations ability
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced, every changing environment
- Ability to work in databases, computer systems, Microsoft Office suites
- Knowledge of security systems a plus.

YOUR COMPENSATION
New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.
The expected hourly starting range for this position is $16.50.
