Basic Statement of Responsibilities
The Platform Engineer I provides entry-level support for infrastructure and platform operations, assisting with monitoring, maintenance, and basic system administration tasks. This position develops foundational technical skills across systems, networking, telecommunications, and security while supporting the Platforms & Infrastructure team.
Essential Functions
- Assist with system monitoring and routine maintenance activities.
- Support installation and configuration of hardware, software, and infrastructure systems.
- Assist with troubleshooting technical issues and resolution activities.
- Perform basic administrative tasks across supported systems and platforms.
- Maintain technical documentation and follow established operational procedures.
- Support backup and recovery activities.
- Develop knowledge and skills across infrastructure, networking, telecommunications, identity, and security domains.
- Participate in professional development and technical training opportunities.
- Perform other duties in alignment with this position as required to support OTES.
- Monitor technology systems and assist with ensuring platform availability.
- Support implementation, maintenance, and administration of technology infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot and resolve routine technical issues.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation.
- Assist with backup, recovery, and operational support activities.
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical users.
- Work collaboratively with OTES staff to support institutional technology services.
Education, Experience, and Specialized Skills
This position requires foundational knowledge of computer systems, networking, and technical support practices. The individual must demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop skills across infrastructure, networking, telecommunications, security, and platform technologies. Basic troubleshooting ability, effective communication skills, and strong organizational skills are required.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience in higher education or a public-sector environment.
- Internship or hands-on experience with systems or networking.
- Exposure to virtualization, networking, or scripting.
- Industry certifications such as Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, or similar credentials.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic technical troubleshooting skills.
- Strong willingness to learn and develop new technical skills.
- Ability to follow established procedures and work effectively within a team environment.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to support infrastructure, network, and platform services in a professional and customer-focused manner.
