PARAPROFESSIONAL - 31A At Risk

SUMMARY: Student Support Paraprofessional provides individualized assistance to students with documented support plans who require adult assistance to access the educational environment safely and successfully. The paraprofessional assists students with mobility, personal care needs, classroom participation, and academic access while promoting independence, dignity, and inclusion within the school setting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist students with safe movement throughout the school building, including transitions between classes and arrival/dismissal routines.
• Provide support with mobility and personal care needs, including toileting assistance, while maintaining student privacy and dignity
• Monitor student safety in classrooms, hallways, and other school environments.
• Support students during periods of fatigue or physical limitations and assist with accessing breaks as needed.
• Serve as a scribe when appropriate by recording student responses during classroom activities, assignments, and assessments.
• Support students in accessing instructional materials and technology, including assistive technology tools.
• Assist students with organization, note-taking, and accessing teacher-provided materials.
• Facilitate testing accommodations, including providing support in alternate settings when necessary.
• Encourage student independence and self-advocacy while implementing accommodations as directed by the student's support plan.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding all student information in accordance with FERPA and district policies.
• Participate in training related to student support needs, safety procedures, and district initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned that support student access and participation in the educational environment.
• Ability to provide personal care assistance while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
• Accurately complete time and effort logs, documenting daily activities, and noting specific activities and students being supported.
• Perform other tasks as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor that are allowable under the Section 31a guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalent is required and applicants MUST be "Highly Qualified" as required under NCLB – this requires 60 or more college credits or a passing score of 460 on the ETS Parapro Assessment. Completion of CPI training after hire is required. Previous experience in childcare preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The

employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to push items of 50 lbs., such as pushing children on a bike, in a wheelchair, or moving/rearranging furniture. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Position starts 2026-2027 School year, 6.5 hrs/day, Monday-Friday, Student days only.

SALARY: Per Paraprofessional Handbook Salary Schedule.
