Role Description Looking for someone already managing ProjectWise ORD who wants to own standards and fix an implementation for a growing TxDOT consultant. The ProjectWise & CAD Systems Lead (Open Roads) is a full-time, on-site or remote role based in the San Antonio, Texas Metropolitan Area. This role sits under operations/technical leadership but expected to be billable part‑time (helping on complex ORD production for TxDOT jobs) once the system is stable. Responsible for administering and optimizing ProjectWise, Open Roads, and related CAD/BIM environments, including configuration, standards management, user support, and troubleshooting. Daily tasks include developing and maintaining CAD standards, templates, and workflows; coordinating file management and data integrity; and ensuring consistent application of standards across projects. The position collaborates with engineers, designers, and project managers to support production teams, improve drafting efficiency, and implement best practices for digital project delivery. The role also involves training and mentoring staff, documenting procedures, and working with IT and software vendors to support system updates and integrations.
Qualifications
- First 3–6 months: Clean up and Standardize ProjectWise ORD, document standards, and train your key designers.
- Ongoing: Administer ProjectWise, own ORD configs, and support delivery teams so CAD issues never become the bottleneck again.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools and workflows, including experience with technical drawing and production drafting.
- Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining CAD standards, including file structures, naming conventions, and drawing presentation guidelines.
- Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) concepts and their application to civil infrastructure, including coordination of model-based design processes.
- Ability to produce and review detailed drawings, plans, and design documents to ensure accuracy, clarity, and compliance with project requirements.
- Hands-on experience administering or leading use of platforms such as ProjectWise and Bentley Open Roads (or similar civil design software).
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot software, standards, and file management issues in a production environment.
- Effective communication and training skills, with the ability to support and mentor multidisciplinary design teams.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, civil engineering, drafting/design, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience in civil infrastructure TxDOT projects (e.g., roadways, transportation, site development) is preferred.
