Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, including patient history, mental status examinations, and risk assessments to establish accurate diagnoses.
- Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications in accordance with best practices and regulatory guidelines.
- Develop personalized treatment plans incorporating psychotherapy, medication management, and other therapeutic modalities tailored to each patient's needs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, social workers, and case managers to coordinate comprehensive care strategies.
- Provide patient education on mental health conditions, medication usage, coping strategies, and wellness practices to promote adherence and recovery.
- Document all clinical encounters accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Athenahealth while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical research projects, and staff training sessions to advance psychiatric services and uphold NCQA standards.
Experience
- Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner with certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health (PMHNP-BC or equivalent).
- Proven experience delivering psychiatric care across diverse settings such as outpatient clinics, inpatient units, or emergency departments.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR systems), including Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks platforms.
- Knowledge of psychopharmacology principles, medication management protocols, and CPT coding for billing purposes.
- Experience working with special populations such as children, geriatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia care needs is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments including vital signs, mental status exams, and risk evaluations.
