We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to oversee and manage the company’s tax compliance and strategy, including sales and use tax, property tax, fuel-related taxes such as IFTA, and applicable Canadian VAT (and refunds). This role will ensure compliance with multi-jurisdictional tax regulations across the U.S. and Canada, optimize tax processes, and support audits and planning initiatives.
Essential job functions
- Manage and oversee compliance for U.S. sales and use tax, including return preparation, filings, and payments across multiple jurisdictions
- Administer and coordinate property tax filings, assessments, and appeals
- Oversee IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement) reporting, filings, and reconciliations
- Work proactively and provide guidance to various accounting functions for compliance and filing preparedness (W-2s, 1099s, W-9s, etc.)
- Reconcile tax positions as part of the financial close process
- Support compliance with Canadian indirect taxes (GST/HST, PST/QST), including filings and documentation
- Monitor changes in U.S. and Canadian tax laws and assess their impact on the business
- Lead and support tax audits, including responding to notices, gathering documentation
- Proactively research and monitory jurisdictional compliance and nexus
- Maintain and improve indirect tax processes, controls, and systems
- Collaborate with accounting, finance, and operations teams to ensure accurate tax treatment of cross-border and domestic transactions
- Review exemption certificates and ensure proper documentation is maintained
- Identify opportunities for tax savings, process efficiencies, and risk mitigation
- Support tax technology implementations or improvements
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting (CPA or MST preferred)
- 5 years of relevant tax experience, with strong emphasis on indirect taxes
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. sales and use tax, property tax, and IFTA regulations
- Experience with Canadian indirect taxes (GST/HST, PST, QST) strongly preferred
- Experience with multi-state and cross-border (U.S./Canada) tax compliance and audits
- Familiarity with tax software and ERP systems (e.g., Vertex, Avalara)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or MST
- Experience in industries with complex tax footprints (e.g., transportation, logistics, manufacturing, retail)
- Familiarity with Vista or Trimble products
- Exposure to cross-border tax planning and compliance
- Ability to supervise and mentor staff
Salary : $120,000 - $150,000
