Summer Position – Penn Charter Summer Camp
The Youth Leadership Program Coordinator will lead and oversee Penn Charter Summer Camp’s six-week Youth Leadership Program (YLP), designed to help participants transition from campers into future camp staff members and young leaders. This role is ideal for an energetic, organized, and mentorship-driven educator or youth development professional who is passionate about leadership development, community building, and working with adolescents.
The Coordinator will create a supportive and engaging environment where participants develop leadership skills, responsibility, professionalism, communication, teamwork, and confidence through hands-on camp experiences, workshops, mentorship, and shadowing opportunities throughout the summer.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise all aspects of the Youth Leadership Program throughout the six-week camp season
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor for program participants
- Facilitate leadership workshops, team-building activities, and professional development sessions
- Support participants as they shadow counselors and staff in various camp groups and specialty areas
- Guide participants in developing age-appropriate leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Plan and oversee special projects and leadership initiatives for the group
- Provide ongoing coaching, encouragement, and constructive feedback to participants
- Collaborate closely with Camp Directors and adult staff to ensure meaningful leadership opportunities for participants
- Monitor participant growth, engagement, behavior, and overall success within the program
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, respectful, and positive camp environment
- Communicate professionally with camp leadership, staff, and families as needed
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and all required camp events
Qualifications
- Experience working with children, teens, or leadership development programs
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to mentor and motivate adolescents in a positive and supportive way
- Experience in education, youth development, camp leadership, counseling, or related fields preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively with camp leadership and staff
- Enthusiastic, flexible, dependable, and professional
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and welcoming community
- Must be available for the full six-week summer camp program
Program Goals
The Youth Leadership Program is designed to bridge the gap between being a Penn Charter camper and becoming a Penn Charter staff member. Through mentorship, leadership opportunities, workshops, and hands-on experiences, participants grow into independent young leaders who positively contribute to camp culture and community. The program focuses on developing responsible role models while preparing participants for future opportunities within Penn Charter Summer Camps and beyond.
