What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Biller and Workers' Compensation Specialist position at All's Well?
We are seeking an experienced Workers’ Compensation / Accounts Receivable Specialist to join our team in Columbia, SC. This role is responsible for reviewing, researching, and resolving unpaid, unprocessed, and denied claims submitted to third-party payers, ensuring providers are reimbursed accurately and in a timely manner.
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of workers’ compensation billing, Medicare claims processing, and payer-specific guidelines, with the ability to manage high-volume claim follow-up while maintaining accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review, research, and resolve insurance claims, including workers’ compensation, denials, underpayments, and overpayments.
- Verify billing accuracy, correct errors, and resubmit clean claims electronically or by paper.
- Manage assigned workbaskets (denials, 60–150 day aging) to ensure timely resolution of outstanding claims.
- Process incoming mail, Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), and other correspondence related to claims.
- Work with EDI transactions, ERA files, and rejection reports.
- Contact payers via phone, fax, or web-based portals to resolve claims efficiently.
- Research claim status, verify eligibility, and resolve payment issues.
- Handle patient billing complaints and assist with overflow customer service calls as needed.
- Adhere to HIPAA regulations and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Meet or exceed established quality and productivity standards.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years medical billing experience (workers’ compensation and commercial insurance preferred)
- Strong knowledge of Medicare regulations and payer guidelines
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting
Preferred:
- Associate’s Degree in healthcare, business, or related field
- Medical Billing, Revenue Cycle, or Coding Certification (CRCR, CPC)
