Duties
- Act as the primary circulating nurse during surgical procedures, ensuring adherence to aseptic technique and sterile field maintenance.
- Prepare operating rooms by verifying equipment functionality, gathering necessary supplies, and confirming patient readiness.
- Assist surgical teams with patient positioning, documentation, and intraoperative monitoring to optimize outcomes.
- Manage specimen collection and processing, ensuring proper labeling and transportation for laboratory analysis.
- Monitor patient vital signs continuously, assess physiological responses, and respond promptly to any changes or emergencies.
- Maintain detailed medical documentation within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner, ensuring compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Support preoperative assessments and postoperative care plans, including pain management, wound care, and discharge instructions.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including anesthesiologists, surgeons, and support staff to facilitate seamless surgical procedures.
- Demonstrate proficiency in advanced techniques such as suturing, IV infusion administration, airway management, and catheterization.
- Uphold infection control protocols rigorously to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety throughout the perioperative process.
Experience
- Proven OR circulating experience within hospital settings, including Level I Trauma Centers or teaching hospitals.
- Familiarity with diverse surgical specialties such as ophthalmology, cardiology (including cardiac catheterization), neurosurgery (PICU), trauma medicine, or outpatient ambulatory surgery centers.
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner for accurate medical documentation.
- Knowledge of critical care practices including ICU experience, ventilator management, acute pain management, and infectious disease care.
- Background in handling complex cases involving ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, and medical records management.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in high-pressure environments such as emergency rooms or urgent care settings.
- Strong understanding of aseptic techniques, sterile processing procedures, and infection control standards.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new clinical environments while maintaining high standards of patient care.
- Prior exposure to working with individuals with disabilities or special needs is advantageous but not required.
