Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Travel Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) procedures to join our dynamic healthcare team in Tennessee. The ideal candidate will provide expert nursing care during cardiovascular surgeries, ensuring optimal patient outcomes through meticulous assessment, preparation, and post-operative care. Duties
- Provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing cardiovascular surgeries within the CVOR suite.
- Prepare patients for surgery by conducting thorough assessments, reviewing medical histories, and ensuring all necessary documentation is complete.
- Assist surgical teams during procedures by maintaining aseptic technique, managing surgical instruments, and monitoring patient vital signs continuously.
- Administer medications including anesthesia agents, analgesics, and other IV therapies with precision and adherence to protocols.
- Monitor patients’ physiological responses during surgery, utilizing advanced monitoring equipment such as ventilators and cardiac catheters.
- Manage post-operative recovery by assessing patient status, managing pain, and coordinating care plans for optimal healing.
- Document all patient interactions accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner while complying with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and critical care staff to ensure seamless patient care transitions.
- Maintain sterile environments through proper sterile processing techniques and ensure all surgical equipment is properly sterilized and prepared.
- Support ongoing quality improvement initiatives by adhering to NCQA standards and participating in case reviews or audits related to trauma medicine or infection control.
Skills
- Proven experience working in a Level I or Level II trauma center environment with acute care expertise in cardiac catheterization and ICU settings.
- Strong knowledge of cardiac physiology, anatomy, and diagnostic evaluation techniques relevant to cardiovascular surgery.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; familiarity with ICD-10/ICD-9 coding for documentation accuracy.
- Skilled in aseptic technique, IV insertion/infusion, suturing, ventilator management, and airway management.
- Ability to perform detailed patient assessments including vital signs, physical examinations, and laboratory specimen collection.
- Excellent clinical judgment combined with effective communication skills for working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics and geriatrics.
- Knowledge of Workers' Compensation law as it pertains to occupational health cases involving surgical or trauma injuries.
- Capable of managing complex cases involving acute pain management, post-operative discharge planning, or hospice & palliative medicine considerations.
- Familiarity with medical terminology related to cardiology, infectious disease care, trauma medicine, and medical-surgical nursing practices.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly in high-pressure environments such as emergency rooms or urgent care settings while maintaining patient safety.
