What are the responsibilities and job description for the Batch Plant Operator position at *All Jobs?
The batch plant operator is responsible for making quality concrete and providing it in a timely manner to the production crew. It is the batch plant operator’s responsibility to ensure that all the concrete we produce meets the required specifications. Batches product using computer or manual controls using proper mix and making necessary raw material adjustments

Responsibilities & Expectation
- Will conduct opening and closing procedures for plant/s according to established company procedures and guidelines.
- Operate a front-end loader to ensure the material bins are filled to meet plant demands.
- Participate as an integral member of the plant leadership team to create a high performance.
- Performs daily moisture testing on materials to ensure compliance with stated specifications.
- Operates batch console to make ready mix concrete according to customer and company specifications.
- Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies as well as instilling safety culture in the workforce
- Housekeeping, plant signage, and plant presentation must be maintained every day.
- Ensures the efficient and safe use of equipment and operations by personnel to complete all required tasks.
- Informs dispatch on a timely basis of any plant activity, issues or concerns that might impact customer service.
- Communicates with support departments (HSE Manager, fleet/plant maintenance, other plant facilities, quality control, HR, etc.) on a timely basis to identify and resolve questions and/or issues.
- Ensures company compliance with all company, local, state and federal environmental policies, procedures and regulations.
- Assists the plant manager with supervising plant production employees to include administering all applicable company policies and procedures.
- Assists plant manager with managing employee work hours in the most cost-effective manner.
- Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs to plant equipment as needed.
- Assists plant manager with administrative reporting to include cash sales report, delivery tickets, raw material receipts and other reports as needed/requested.
- Assists the plant manager with inventory measurement for all raw materials.
- Assists with the training of all production new hires at the site.
- Assist drivers with checking slumps on the slump stand at drivers' request.
- Other duties as assigned or required to ensure the production schedule is met. This includes operating a ReadyMix truck when necessary.
- Batch and load at the appropriate time to arrive on the jobsite as scheduled
- Accuracy and attention to detail is a must
- Complete all paperwork in its entirety and forward as applicable
Personnel Supervision
- Ensure regulatory compliance with the FDA, OSHA, EPA, LEPC, local Fire and Police Departments, Health Department, and Weights and Measures
- Monitor job performance and productivity
- Ensure that all employees are following company’s policies and procedures
- Ensure that all employees are using all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and are working safely
- Prepare employee performance appraisals (accurate, detailed and unbiased appraisals are expected)
- Assist Plant Manager with accident investigation and reports as necessary
- Represent the company in a professional manner at all times

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities / Experience

High School Education or Equivalent
-
Experience in concrete production is preferred

Current, valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.

Satisfactory driving and criminal record

Demonstrated effective communication skills (oral and written).

Demonstrated proficiency with simple math calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division (especially percentages) as well as measurements.

Demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize tasks.

Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Demonstrate leadership qualities and maintain a professional attitude

Must be able to speak, understand, read and write English.
Certificates, License, Registrations
- Current, Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Required
- Successful completion of Centex Materials Comprehensive Driver Training Program
- NRMCA Plant Manager Certification – Preferred
Restrictions
- Must be able to pass DOT physical requirements
- Must be able to lift/maneuver a minimum of 50 pounds as required throughout the workday

Other Requirements
- CDL holders must pass DOT (Department of Transportation) physical as well as federally mandated alcohol and drug testing requirements
- Majority of work is performed indoors.
- Occasional exposure to elements of weather to include extremes in heat, cold, dust and moisture for limited periods.
- Occasionally/frequently exposed to rough, muddy and icy walking surface conditions.
- Intermittent exposure to high noise levels and vibration.
- Occasional/frequent exposure to moving parts/pieces of equipment.
- Frequent exposure to cement, concrete, admixtures, dust, diesel fuel, and other substances that may cause burns, be toxic or explosive if handled incorrectly.
- Frequently exposed to water and wet conditions
- Part of the Batch Operators job duties will be "other" tasks/duties as assigned or as necessary.
- Fill in for Plant Manager as needed.
