Field Service Engineer — Industrial Automation & Controls

We are seeking experienced Field Service Engineers to support industrial automation customers, ideally based in New England or willing to travel nationally as needed. This is a direct-hire, hourly opportunity for candidates with strong hands-on experience in industrial automation, PLC troubleshooting, Rockwell Automation, AC/DC drives, and field-based service work.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in control systems, PLC program review, PLC code modification, equipment troubleshooting, and commissioning. Experience in the wire and cable industry or with web handling equipment is highly beneficial, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Install, troubleshoot, maintain, and service industrial equipment and automation systems.
• Perform field service engineering support for customer sites throughout New England and across the U.S. when required.
• Review and modify existing PLC programs, with a strong preference for Rockwell / Allen-Bradley PLC experience.
• Support PLC migrations, including retrofits from older PLC platforms to newer PLC systems.
• Troubleshoot and service AC drives, DC drives, controls, HMIs, and related automation equipment.
• Diagnose, analyze, and repair equipment failures to maximize machine uptime and performance.
• Perform installation, commissioning, and start-up of industrial systems.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, and electro-mechanical diagrams.
• Provide technical recommendations and service support to customers.
• Document service work, time, materials, parts, and field activity accurately.
• Follow applicable safety standards, company procedures, and state and federal regulations.
• Travel to customer locations as required; New England-based candidates may have more local customer assignments.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of Field Service Engineer experience, industrial maintenance experience, or related automation service experience preferred.
• Strong background with Rockwell Automation, Allen-Bradley PLCs, PLC troubleshooting, and PLC code modification.
• Experience with PLC migrations, field retrofits, and upgrading legacy control systems.
• Familiarity with AC drives, DC drives, controls, HMIs, and industrial automation systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment in the field and resolve customer issues independently.
• Ability to read and understand complex schematics, electrical drawings, and electro-mechanical diagrams.
• Experience with wire and cable equipment, web handling, or related manufacturing machinery is a plus.
• Strong commissioning, start-up, troubleshooting, and upgrade experience.
• Self-directed, motivated, and comfortable working in customer-facing field environments.
• Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered.
• Must maintain high legal, ethical, and safety standards.

Compensation & Employment Type

This is a direct-hire, hourly position. Pay is based on experience and skill level, with a preferred range up to $50 per hour. Excellent earning potential may include overtime pay, comprehensive benefits, and paid time off.

Location & Travel

Two Field Service Engineers are needed, ideally located in New England, near Southeastern Massachusetts or the surrounding region. Candidates local to New England may be dispatched to nearby customer sites and return home most evenings. Candidates outside the region must be open to regular national travel.
