POSITION OVERVIEW
The Sterilization Technician is responsible for overseeing sterilization and infection control processes to ensure compliance and support dental clinic operations.
SCHEDULE AND PAY
This is a full-time (40-hour) position.
Hours: Monday – Friday 7:45 AM – 5 PM.
Pay Range: $18-24/hour based on experience and education level.
DUTIES
- Responsible for mentoring and training trainee Dental Assistants.
- Meets with supervisor to give updates on status of trainees on a weekly basis.
- Ensures trainees dental assistant sterilization competencies required by the Dental Department are completed within training timelines set by supervisor.
- Displays positive mentorship to trainee dental assistants.
- Provides strict guidance to safety and infection control practices.
- Assists with overseeing the clinics sterilization and infection control practices.
- Coordinates daily sterilization operations.
- Oversees instrument cleaning, packaging, sterilization and storage.
- Ensures compliance with infection control regulations and manufacturer IFU’s.
- Monitor’s sterilization cycles, logs, and biological spore testing on a weekly basis.
- Verifies proper function of autoclaves and sterilization equipment on a daily basis.
- Ensures safe transport of contaminated instruments utilizing plastic bins with lids and utility gloves throughout the process of transport into sterile center and all the way through dirty-side of sterilization process until items are placed into autoclave.
- Ensures trainees and team members are utilizing safe sterilization and infection control practices to minimize employee work-place injuries related to sterilization
- Oversees the clinics inventory and equipment.
- Maintains inventory of sterilization supplies, PPE, and packaging materials.
- Monitors equipment maintenance and repairs as it pertains to sterilization.
- Inspects instruments for cleanliness, function, and damage.
- Assists with Quality Assurance and Compliance maintenance.
- Maintains organized and compliant treatment, sterilization, and storage areas.
- Maintains required logs, records, and documentation as pertains to sterilization.
- Assists with regulatory inspections and survey preparation.
- Servies as the lead contact during audit, inspections, and site visits.
- Participates in quality improvement and infection control initiatives.
- Assists with policy and procedure development as it pertains to sterilization.
- Reports compliance, equipment and process concerns to supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Sterilization Certification Preferred
- Previous training and experience in sterilization preferred.
