Primary Purpose:
To provide support to students and their families in developing appropriate transition plans, ensuring appropriate course selection for employability and self-help skills and accessing services from public agencies.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Valid Texas Teaching Certificate as a Special Education Teacher
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong knowledge in transition planning
- Strong knowledge of with students with various disabilities and diverse needs
- Knowledge of federal and state special education rules and regulations
Experience:
- Five (5) years’ experience in special education
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Management
- Train campus staff to develop appropriate transition plans, including measurable transition goals, life plans, developing coordinated set of activities, and conducting age- appropriate assessments.
- Assist the campus to ensure that each student meets timelines for transition planning; includes documenting age of majority, transfer of rights, information on guardianship and alternatives to guardianship, release of confidential information to agencies, etc.
- Complete monthly audits to determine effective procedures for transition planning.
- Collaborate with Texas Workforce Commission, to ensure that all special education students have an opportunity to apply for services, as appropriate.
- Assist the campus to ensure students are enrolled in appropriate coursework to provide employability skills in support of the student’s transition plan.
- Assist the campus in helping senior students apply for FAFSA and complete applications for post-secondary training opportunities (community college, vocational training schools, etc.)
- Assist Transition Coordinator with Indicator 13 and 14 Audits: reviewing student files, assuring compliance and preparing files for TEA audit; meet with state auditors if needed.
- Travel among schools to observe instruction and provide feedback to maximize student achievement.
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district wide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

2025-2026 Salary Range Min. $ 70,270 (Based on previous experience)
Salaries are determined by the number of completed and eligible years of service at an accredited school.
Salary is based on 205 days. If working less than 205 days, the salary will be less.
