What are the responsibilities and job description for the Strategy & Operations Manager position at Alibaba.com?
ABOUT THE ROLE
Alibaba.com is building the future of cross-border B2B e-commerce — and we’re looking for a builder to help us go from zero to one in the U.S. market. As Strategy & Operations Manager, you’ll sit at the center of the Americas business, partnering directly with the GM of Americas to define strategy, drive execution, and unlock the next wave of GMV growth across our local supplier and buyer ecosystems.
This is a high-ownership, high-impact seat for someone who thrives in ambiguity, moves fast, and wants to build something category-defining.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Build from 0 to 1: Own end-to-end strategy and execution for the U.S. B2B e-commerce business — from defining the playbook to landing measurable GMV wins.
- Grow both sides of the marketplace: Develop and scale the local supplier pool and U.S. buyer base; design GTM motions that compound month over month.
- Operate as a core partner: Serve as the connective tissue between the Americas team and HQ across logistics, payments, seller and buyer experience, and platform governance.
- Drive platform improvements: Translate friction points into clear, data-backed recommendations that move the GMV needle.
- Execute with the GM: Work hand-in-hand with the business team to ensure goals are not just set, but executed against — relentlessly.
WHO YOU ARE
- ▸ 5 years of experience in strategy, operations, consulting, or investing — with a clear track record of building and scaling new business lines.
- Prior experience in the U.S. or another English-speaking market; MBA from a top program is a strong plus.
- Background in management consulting (MBB or equivalent), high-growth tech (think Uber Strategy & Ops, Google GTM/Strategy), or investing (VC/PE/growth equity).
- You’ve built things from scratch — and you know what it takes to scale them.
- Sharp analytical mind paired with strong commercial instincts; equally comfortable in a financial model and a customer conversation.
- Fluent operator across stakeholders, geographies, and time zones — bonus points for prior exposure to China-U.S. cross-border business.
THE MINDSET WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We’re hiring builders, not bystanders. This is an opportunity for someone who loves the challenge of going from zero to one and isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves to get things done.
- You bring an entrepreneurial spirit and thrive in a fast-paced environment where you take full ownership of outcomes.
- You’re self-directed, outcome-focused, and motivated by impact — not titles, not hours, not job descriptions.
- You’re comfortable wearing multiple hats, making decisions independently, and operating with a learning mindset that turns every challenge into a growth opportunity.
- You’re drawn to roles where the ceiling is set by your own ambition — and where the chance to directly shape business results is the reward.
WHY THIS ROLE
You’ll have a direct line to senior leadership, real ownership over a P&L-shaping mandate, and the rare chance to build a flagship business at the intersection of the world’s largest B2B platform and the U.S. market. If you’re looking for a seat where you can compound your career — this is it.
