Special Education Due Process Coordinator

The Special Education Due Process Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and ensuring district compliance with all federal and state special education procedural requirements. This position provides leadership in the administration of due process procedures, case management oversight, compliance monitoring, dispute resolution, and legal documentation while collaborating with Special Education administrators, special education staff, school psychologists, families, and building-level administration. In addition, the position will work with Student Intervention Teams (SIT) to oversee the MTSS process for building-specific assignments. The coordinator serves as a resource to ensure that students with disabilities receive a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504, Minnesota Statutes, and Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) regulations.

Qualifications

• Minnesota administrative licensure in Special Education Director or other appropriate administrative license preferred or working towards.
• Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field.
• Minimum of five years of successful experience in special education.
• Experience with special education compliance, evaluation procedures, and Individualized Education Program (IEP) development.
• Demonstrated leadership, organizational, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to analyze complex legal and educational information while maintaining confidentiality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Coordinate building-level due process activities.
• Monitor compliance with federal and state special education timelines.
• Ensure procedural safeguards are implemented consistently.
• Maintain required documentation.
• Collaborate with Special Education Administration regarding due process matters.
• Ensure procedural notices are completed accurately and within required timelines.
• Review IEPs, evaluation reports, Prior Written Notices, and eligibility determinations for procedural accuracy.
• Provide guidance regarding evaluation planning and eligibility determinations.
• Monitor reevaluation schedules.
• Assist families in understanding procedural safeguards and special education processes.
• Monitor district compliance data.
• Analyze trends to identify areas requiring improvement.
• Assist with state reporting requirements.
• Maintain documentation data review documents for Special Education and SIT process
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
