Location:                                Anchorage, Alaska 

 

Reports to:                              Family Programs Administrator – Anchorage

 

Work Schedule:                     Full-Time – 37.5 hrs. per week

Job Summary:                        Family Programs is seeking a Case Worker based in Anchorage, AK. The individual will work closely with the Family Services Administrator to provide advocacy and support to clients and their families throughout the phases of an Indian Child Welfare (ICWA) case. General duties include: working closely with and maintaining regular contact with ICWA case stakeholders; maintaining accurate records and case notes; participating in case meetings as scheduled; conducting home visits when necessary; collaborating closely with Tribal Councils regarding tribal children; identifying families and children at risk for child abuse or neglect and advocating for family or tribal placements; traveling for work-related meetings when requested by the supervisor; and other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:                      Minimum: An Associate of Arts degree in Social Science or a closely related field and two years of case management experience in a Social or Human Services agency and/or Tribal organization. Applicants with a high school diploma and five years of relevant case management experience who are actively pursuing an AA degree in the required field may also be considered.

 

Applicant must:                       Be knowledgeable about Child Welfare services, Family Preservation, Foster Care, Adoption, Judicial systems, jurisdiction, court documentation, and local, state, and tribal governments.

The Case Worker will:

 

1.       Interact with tribal administrators, board members, executives, managers, and professional and clerical employees effectively, tactfully, and cooperatively

2.       Communicate clearly and effectively (both orally and in writing)

3.       Work independently under limited direction

4.       Organize work and set priorities to meet critical deadlines

5.       Maintain accurate case notes

6.       Practice basic mentoring and assessment skills

7.       Manage crisis situations calmly and positively

8.       Refer clients to necessary resources within the community and statewide

9.       Promote Alaska Native and American Indian culture and/or community-based resources

10.   Interact positively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, particularly American Indians/Alaska Natives
