Field Engineer

The Field Engineer supports the Superintendent, Project Manager, and Foreman in the successful execution of heavy civil construction projects. This position is primarily field-based and serves as the link between field operations, project management, and the office by coordinating materials, tracking project progress, maintaining project documentation, supporting cost and schedule controls, and assisting with payroll administration to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Assist with project startup by coordinating field documentation, materials, equipment, and site logistics.
• Provide field and technical support by interpreting plans, specifications, and project requirements for field personnel.
• Coordinate the procurement, delivery, and tracking of materials, equipment, and purchase orders.
• Maintain accurate project records including daily production quantities, timecards, material usage, and cost tracking.
• Assist with schedule updates, weekly budget projections, and job cost forecasting.
• Create, manage, and track Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, and other project documentation.
• Maintain current project drawings, revisions, as-built documentation, and installation records.
• Assist with GPS survey layout by locating, verifying, and staking project control points.
• Support quality control efforts, special inspections, and compliance with project specifications.
• Assist with environmental and regulatory compliance, including SWPPP, permits, Notices of Intent (NOIs), and related documentation.
• Support the preparation, documentation, and coordination of project change orders.
• Participate in pre-construction meetings, project meetings, and coordination meetings; prepare agendas, meeting minutes, and progress reports as needed.
• Assist with project billing support, subcontractor documentation, and closeout activities including O&M manuals and turnover documents.
• Support site safety documentation and coordination in partnership with project leadership.
• Perform field support activities including layout assistance, tagging and labeling materials, equipment coordination, and project-related errands.
• Maintain professional working relationships with owners, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal project teams.
• Review, compile, and submit weekly payroll information, including employee timecards, PTO, holiday pay, and other time-off records, while serving as the primary liaison between field personnel and the Payroll Manager for payroll-related communication.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
