GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY
Library Assistant provides support to the Librarian and patrons in a courteous and professional manner.
JOB SCOPE
This position collaborates with the Librarian to maintain a visually and physically stimulating environment, in addition to keeping books in good repair.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists patrons in the use of both physical and digital library materials and the facility
- Processes materials (cover books, affix labels, place book plates, etc.)
- Receives and reshelves returned books
- Gives lessons on care of books and using place boards and makes repairs to books
- Enters data into library software program
- Assists with maintaining classroom and library inventory
- Assists with the Annual Alcuin Book Fair
- Assists with annual library programs and events (examples: book fair, author visits, etc.)
- Assists Librarian with training volunteers
- Manages library supplies that are crucial for library operations (barcodes, soft products, etc.)
- Maintains cleanliness and organization
- Collaborates with Librarian to organize volunteers for closing library at end of school year (dusting, organizing shelves, etc.)
- Collaborates with Librarian and Director of Lower Elementary regarding issues directly related to materials and practices in the library
- Attends school, community, and/or parent education events as outlined in the Employee Handbook, or as assigned by Director of Lower Elementary
- Complies with content of Employee Handbook for all other expectations and duties not listed
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Lower Elementary or Head of School with Division Directors as guided by Librarian
- Attends school functions
- Works carpool as needed
- Communicates with parents, administrators, and student support staff concerning the emotional and physical well-being of students
- Assists Librarian with maintaining website
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Required:
- Ability to provide documents verifying authorization to work in the U.S.
- Must pass Criminal Background Checks and Drug Testing
- 4-year College Degree
- Experience working with young students
- Ability to interact and communicate appropriately and professionally in both written and verbal format with parents, students, and colleagues
- Ability to plan and organize work effectively
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships via strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to create and deliver presentations to large groups of students and parents
- Working knowledge of Microsoft and Google Suite of products
- Must demonstrate and enthusiastically support the School’s Mission
Preferred:
- Undergraduate Degree
- Previous library experience
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
- This position does not supervise anyone
EQUIPMENT USED
- Computers, laptops, tablets, phones
- Printers, copiers, fax
- Audio/Visual technology – projectors, TVs/screens, and microphones
JOB CONDITIONS
- Works in standard office climate and conditions
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 20lbs
- Works outdoors supervising students at carpool and on school trips as needed
- Complete required training such as CPR or First-Aid

PAY RANGE
- Pay is based on experience and is competitive with Independent Schools in the Dallas, Texas, area.
WORK SCHEDULE
- Schedule: Generally, Monday to Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm. There may be some evening or weekend work based on school functions/events.
