Essential Job Functions
- Enforces institutional rules, regulations and laws regarding student conduct
- Enforces regulations concerning parking, blocking or impeding traffic
- Responds to routine public safety service requests, inquiries, complaints, alarms and emergency messages, identifying and recognizing criminal acts
- Issues traffic tickets, summons and arrest warrants
- Enforces institutional rules relative to vehicle identification parking permits
- Enforces rules/regulations relative to unauthorized persons being of ASU property
- Routinely patrols campus
- Performs moderately complex investigations of crimes and accidents
- Interviews victims, suspects and witnesses, collects evidence and facts, completes and files reports appropriately
- Maintains a professional law enforcement image at all times
- Other related duties, as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year law enforcement experience preferred
- Law Enforcement Board of Minimum Standards Certification
Valid Mississippi Driver’s License
21 years old or greater
- Capacity to pass law enforcement officer academy
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of policing principles and practices
Working knowledge of state laws and relevant university policy
Basic computer skills
Ability to effectively respond to inquiry, give direction to, and control people using oral communication skills under stress and non-stress conditions
Ability to effectively organize accurate, complete and legible written or text communications
Ability to exercise good judgment and make critical decisions under routine, moderate and highly stressful conditions
- Ability to recognize and effectively respond to threats to self and others
