What are the responsibilities and job description for the PreK Teacher position at Albuquerque Sign Language Academy?
The Albuquerque Sign Language Academy is looking for an Early Childhood Licensed Teacher for a 3 and 4
year old classroom for a start-up early childhood program that will operate for the 2026-27 school year.
Qualifications and Skills
? Must possess a degree in Early Childhood Education from an accredited college;
? Must hold an NMPED Early Childhood teaching license (or apply for upon hire);
? Have strong classroom management skills and techniques applicable to young children;
? Possess leadership skills when managing assistant teaching staff;
? Have a strong knowledge base of early childhood development and its applications;
? Have a strong knowledge base of developmentally appropriate, multicultural and play-based teaching
practices;
? Possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
Desired Experience or skills
? All experiences in the field of working with young children valued, formal and informal;
? Working proficiency of American Sign Language or enthusiastic willingness to learn.
Responsibilities and Duties
? Develop and/or follow curriculum, instructional methods, materials and techniques using
developmentally appropriate practices for all children;
? Actively support inclusion of children of all abilities by planning developmentally appropriate activities
and setting up the physical environment for a range of children’s abilities;
? Participate in meetings and training to determine methods, techniques and activities to provide
developmentally appropriate practices in classrooms;
? Closely and actively monitor and engage with students at all times during the instructional day,
including all structured and unstructured times;
? Plan, evaluate and improve the physical environment in the classroom to create opportunities to meet the
changing needs of the children;
? Willing to support and monitor all areas of the student’s development, including academics,
social/emotional development, self help and life skills, and physical development;
? Create a positive learning environment by building relationships with students;
? Build relationships with families and keep open communication regarding student progress, social
development, behaviors and needs of students.
