A school maintenance worker ensures a safe, clean, and functional learning environment by performing preventative maintenance, repairs, and groundskeeping. - Preventative MaintenanceRepairs: Conducting routine inspections and repairs on school facilities, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and lighting systems.
- Building Maintenance: Performing carpentry, painting, and masonry repairs, including fixing windows, doors, and furniture.
- GroundsFacility Upkeep: Mowing, weeding, snow removal, landscaping, and ensuring safety on playgrounds and athletic fields.
- SafetySecurity: Assisting with safety inspections, checking fire extinguishers, securing buildings to prevent vandalism, and keeping exits clear.
- Event Support: Arranging equipment, tables, and chairs for school events and assemblies.
- Equipment Operation: Utilizing and maintaining tools, machinery, and, in some cases, cleaning equipment, especially when filling in for custodial staff. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems, along with carpentry and mechanical skills.

- Physical Stamina: Capability to stand for long periods, work outdoors in various weather conditions, and lift heavy equipment (often (50-75) lbs).
