Mechanic Assistant
Position Summary: The Mechanic Assistant supports the maintenance, repair, and inventory management of ACSA's vehicles, equipment, tools, and facilities assets. Working under the direction of the Inventory & Equipment Technician, this position helps ensure equipment is safe, reliable, and available to support daily operations. The Mechanic Assistant performs preventive maintenance, assists with repairs, maintains inventory and maintenance records, and supports purchasing activities while promoting a safe and efficient work environment.
Duties Include: Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and scheduled servicing on vehicles, heavy equipment, tools, and related assets. Diagnose and perform basic mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic repairs within assigned skill level, and assist with more complex repairs as directed. Conduct equipment readiness checks, test equipment following maintenance, and ensure vehicles and equipment meet safety and regulatory standards. Maintain parts and maintenance supply inventories, organize and track materials, receive and inspect deliveries, assist with sourcing parts and preparing purchase requests, and accurately document maintenance, repairs, inspections, parts usage, and equipment history in the asset management system. Respond to urgent maintenance needs, assist staff with equipment-related issues, conduct safety inspections, report hazards, and perform other duties as assigned to support operations.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in automotive, diesel, heavy equipment, or industrial maintenance is preferred. Experience performing basic maintenance and repair on vehicles, equipment, or machinery is preferred. Working knowledge of mechanical systems and the safe use of hand and power tools is required; familiarity with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems is desirable. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, maintain accurate maintenance and inventory records, lift and move equipment and materials, and work safely in indoor and outdoor environments. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to teamwork, customer service, and workplace safety are essential. Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License with a Class A and Tankers Endorsement. Confined Space Entry Supervisor, confined space rescue team certification, Virginia Flaggers Certification, 16-Hour Asbestos Certification, NIMMS Training, Forklift Training, 16-Hour OSHA Training, and First Aid/CPR/AED Certification.
Starting Salary Range $47,841 – $57,409
