General Definition Of Work
The Assistant Director of Extended Day Enrichment Programs (EDEP) supports the Director of EDEP in the division-wide implementation, coordination, supervision, and continuous improvement of before-school, after-school, student holiday, and summer learning programs. The position assists with operational leadership, staffing coordination, program quality assurance, compliance monitoring, family communication, and support for expanded learning opportunities aligned with division priorities and student needs.
The Assistant Director works collaboratively with school administrators, EDEP site staff, families, and central office departments to ensure safe, engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environments that support student enrichment, academic support, social-emotional development, and positive school-family partnerships. The role requires strong organizational leadership, relationship management, problem-solving, and operational coordination skills to support effective and consistent program implementation across multiple sites.
Essential Functions
Knowledge of best practices in expanded learning, school-age programming, youth development, and extended learning environments. Knowledge of child and adolescent development, positive behavior supports, and social-emotional learning practices. Knowledge of operational practices related to multi-site program coordination, supervision, safety, and compliance. Ability to support safe, engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environments. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, staff, school administrators, and community partners. Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and project coordination skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities, respond effectively to operational challenges, and maintain attention to detail in fast-paced environments. Ability to collect, review, and use operational data to support program improvement and decision-making.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, flexibility, and discretion in working with students, staff, and families.
Education And Experience
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in extended learning, youth programming, school-age care, educational programming, or related operational leadership roles is required. Master’s degree in education, educational leadership, youth development, recreation, child development, public administration, or a related field is preferred. Experience supervising staff, coordinating programs, or supporting multi-site operations preferred; Experience working in public education or expanded learning environments preferred; Training in Basic First Aid.
Physical Conditions And Nature Of Work Contacts
Duties performed typically in school settings to include the cafeteria, gym, recreational areas and other assigned spaces; Frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 80 pounds, and other limited physical activities are required; Occasional travel with students of field trips; Frequent movement of students by wheelchairs and there mechanical devises may be required; Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required; Lifting and movement of boxes containing food and drink or snack may be required; Daily personal and close contact with children, EDEP staff members and other school staff required to provide an effective learning environment; Regular contact with staff members and parents; Occasional contact with medical professionals.

- Supports daily operations across multiple EDEP sites to ensure consistency, program quality, and compliance with division expectations;
- Assists with program scheduling, staffing coverage, enrollment management, operational logistics, and site support;
- Conducts site visits and provides operational support, coaching, troubleshooting, and follow-up to ensure effective program implementation;
- Supports the implementation of safe, engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate expanded learning environments;
- Assists in coordinating enrichment activities, academic support opportunities, and student engagement programming aligned with division priorities and student needs;
- Supports implementation of intervention and homework support structures aligned with the division’s Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework.
- Assists with recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, supervision, and support of EDEP site leaders and program staff;
- Supports substitute coordination and staffing continuity across multiple program locations;
- Assists with implementation of program procedures, operational expectations, and quality standards;
- Provides coaching, guidance, and problem-solving support to EDEP staff regarding program operations, student supervision, and family communication;
- Assists with planning and facilitating professional learning opportunities for EDEP staff;
- Supports staff retention and positive workplace culture through ongoing communication, responsiveness, and collaboration;
- Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with students, families, school administrators, school staff, and community partners;
- Supports effective communication systems related to enrollment, attendance, program expectations, student participation, and family engagement;
- Collaborates with school administrators and instructional staff to support continuity between the instructional day and extended learning environment;
- Assists families with problem-solving and responds to questions or concerns regarding EDEP services and operations;
- Supports inclusive and welcoming engagement practices that encourage family participation and equitable access to programming.
- Supports compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, health and safety requirements, and division policies and procedures;
- Assists with implementation of emergency procedures, safety protocols, incident reporting, and risk management expectations;
- Maintains required operational records, documentation, and program reports;
- Uses enrollment, attendance, staffing, participation, and operational data to support continuous improvement and informed decision-making;
