Overview
Alaska Surgical Group (ASG) is seeking a Surgery Scheduler who is organized, detail-oriented and self motivated. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be at the heart of patient care coordination in a fast-paced medical environment.
The Surgery Scheduler coordinates and manages surgical procedures for patients across general surgery, oncology, and breast oncology services. This vital role ensures seamless scheduling, timely care coordination, and compassionate communication.
Key Responsibilities:
- Schedule a wide range of procedures, including but not limited to:
- General surgery (e.g., hernia repair, gallbladder removal, soft tissue procedures)
- Oncology surgeries (e.g., tumor resections, biopsies, port placements)
- Breast procedures (e.g., lumpectomy, mastectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy)
- Coordinate with hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and surgical teams to secure OR time
- Verify insurance coverage and obtain prior authorizations for surgeries and related services
- Arrange and track all pre-operative requirements (labs, imaging, genetic testing, medical clearances)
- Provide clear, compassionate communication to patients and caregivers regarding surgical details, preparation, and next steps
- Prioritize urgent and time-sensitive to prevent delays in care
- Manage schedule changes, cancellations, and post-operative follow-up coordination
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation in EMR systems
- Serve as a liaison between patients, surgeons and external facilities
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1 years of medical scheduling experience (surgical, oncology, or breast care preferred but not required)
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology
- Experience with EMR systems (e.g., Epic, iQueue or eClinical Works)
- Familiarity with insurance verification and prior authorization processes
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in general surgery, oncology or multidisciplinary settings
- Ability to manage complex, high-volume scheduling across multiple specialties
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to navigate sensitive patient situations with professionalism and discretion
Work Environment:
- Office environment which is fast-paced, team-oriented environment with high patient interaction
- Full-time; Monday through Friday 8am-5pm
Salary Range:
$23–$32/hour
Pay: $23.00 - $32.00 per hour
