What are the responsibilities and job description for the Counselor position at Alamance Community School?
Masters Degree in Counseling required
- Reports to the Principal
- Works closely with the Administration to ensure proper placement of new students in correct grade level, courses and programs
- Read The First Six Weeks of School & the the middle school Responsive Advisory Meeting book and is familiar with middle school Responsive Classroom practices
- Assists teachers in implementing Responsive Advisory Meetings and practices with fidelity.
- Responsible for teaching the middle school SEL Elective using the Fly Five curriculum.
- Teach children to care and build relationships through positive behavior and language toward students, staff, and the community by using Responsive Classroom practices and positive language
- Assist in coordinating and providing in-house SEL professional development, as needed
- Assists the Administration to ensure staff are implementing Responsive Classroom practices with fidelity and consistency.
- Assists teachers and staff in evaluating classroom management techniques and makes recommendations
- Assists teachers and staff in the handling of day-to-day problems, behavioral issues, and acts as a resource person for teachers and staff regarding behavior management
- Assists the Administration in providing orientation, in-service training, and professional development for personnel, as needed
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
- Maintains a clean, and organized room that supports student learning and reflects respect for the School
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the ACS curriculum by actively engaging in training, asking questions, and implementing instructional plans effectively.
- Maintains open communications with students, staff and families
- Provides small group support for students
- Coordinates and manages middle school 504 Plans
- Coordinates middle school 504 Plan meetings and participates in Student Success Plan conferences, as necessary
- If needed, assists the Testing Coordinator with the administration of tests and assists both the Testing Coordinator and the EC Facilitator with the creation of small group testing environments, especially those students with a 504 Plan
- Assists the Administration with data analysis of assessments/tests, when needed
- Stays informed of best practices, trends, and educational innovations
- Assists the Administration to ensure that all data is properly maintained for each student in Infinite Campus, when needed
- Assists the Administration to ensure compliance with district reporting in Infinite Campus, when needed
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
- Attends school, district, and professional meetings, as necessary
- Attends meetings, school events, and serves on staff committees as required.
- Complies with the daily staff check-in and out procedures
- Reads and Understands the entire Employee Handbook
- Reads and Understands the entire Parent-Student Handbook
