What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intern - Water Resources Outreach position at Alachua County?
Must be currently enrolled in an accredited two or four-year college or university; or at a technical school taking college-level courses. Must have State of Florida Driver’s License. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and drug screen test prior to employment.
The ideal candidate will be available some weekends and some full day (8am-5pm) shifts with an average of 10-20 hours per week (depending on workload and candidate availability). The end date will depend on the candidate and could extend for as long as the candidate is enrolled in school, provided the candidate continues to meet program requirements.
Desired skills include public speaking, written and oral communication, excellent organization, ability to work independently and collaboratively, experience in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word, and the desire to perform some work in the field. Experience working with Canva is desirable.
PAY INFORMATION **UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT $18.50/HOUR** **GRADUATE STUDENT $19.00/HOUR** As a Student Intern with Alachua County’s Water Resources Program, you’ll play a key role in connecting our community to important water conservation and water quality initiatives. This internship is designed for current college or technical school students who enjoy public engagement, education, and hands-on environmental work.
This is a part-time, non-exempt, temporary intern position tied to ongoing enrollment.
The following tasks are not exhaustive but represent how a candidate can expect to spend most of their time in the internship:
· Plan and deliver our interactive educational programs in local classrooms, summer camps, and at events throughout the community.
· Attend community events, sometimes in the evenings or on weekends.
· Assist with water quality monitoring which may include groundwater and creeks sampling.
· Conduct educational site visits to local businesses and apartment complexes.
· Keep an updated inventory of outreach supplies.
· Keep organized data on outreach impact for reporting.
· Design creative outreach and social marketing materials through software like Canva.
