What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Technician position at Alachua County?
JOB Graduation from high school or equivalent, and two years of any/or a combination of civil engineering, development review, geographic information system, environmental engineering and management, road design, computer operations, drafting, survey, and/or road construction inspection experience; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience.
Candidates with either a bachelor's degree or an associate degree in an appropriate field will be considered without prior experience
Applicants within six months of meeting the minimum education/experience requirement may be considered for trainee status.
Successful completion of all applicable background checks pre-hire and ongoing are required. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES This is experienced technical work in the areas of floodplain management, roadway engineering, design and construction.
An employee assigned to this classification performs complex technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout, including developing and checking engineering computations. Work may involve supervising and assisting in compiling, analyzing and summarizing in report form of basic traffic, roadway, crash and/or maintenance inventory data.
Work is performed under the direction of a higher-level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.
