Description

Agency courier responsible for accurately processing all incoming and outgoing mail, sorting and delivering mail and parcels to various bureaus both throughout the agency and various offices and agencies throughout the county. Additional duties include maintaining accurate logs and records, filing, and other office duties as time permits.

An employee assigned to this classification reports to the Property/Facilities Unit Manager. Performance is evaluated through observation, results obtained, appropriate employee performance appraisals, and oral/written reports.

Examples of Duties

  • Pick up and deliver packaged/boxed supplies, postal, inter-agency, and inter-office mail from the Post Office as well as various agency and county bureaus, departments, and divisions, to include the Criminal and Civil Courthouses. Be familiar with the Sheriff’s Office organizational structure in order to facilitate proper delivery within the agency
  • Maintain an understanding of current postage rates and special handling services and fees in order to apply proper postage to letters and parcels of various sizes, shapes, and weights. Keep an accurate log of activity as necessary
  • As necessary, transport all files and cartons of agency records to and from the designated off-site storage facility as needed
  • Scanning and filing files electronically
  • Order expendable supplies in a timely manner, avoiding shortages of needed items.
  • Store supplies and maintain the supply area in a neat and organized manner
  • Ensure that supplies are delivered to or picked up by the appropriate employee and/or Division/Bureau
  • Serves as backup to Property Specialists, performing designated functions as assigned, including but not limited to:
    • Providing current and new employees with uniforms, equipment and appropriate materials necessary for their duty assignments
    • Maintaining a record of all expendable inventory in accordance with agency procedures
    • Initiating orders for expendable supplies and uniform items as necessary
    • Receiving, unpacking, and inspecting supplies/equipment for compliance with ordering specifications and contact vendors regarding discrepancies
    • Maintaining an accurate record of all items issued to agency personnel
    • Ensuring and document the return of all departmental property upon an employee’s termination
    • Maintaining and issuing of traffic citation books
    • Properly monitoring usage levels of supplies/equipment to avoid over or under stocking
  • Maintaining ACSO building keys
  • Assist other Unit members as needed
Typical Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma / GEDRequired

Experience And Training

  • Ability to type 25 correct words per minute (CWPM)
  • Good working knowledge of computers
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in records, inventory control, warehousing, and/or purchasing preferred
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSING:

  • Current, valid Florida driver license

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sit/stand for moderate periods
  • See/hear at a normal range
  • Read, write, and understand English fluently

  • Lift/carry up to 50 pounds

  • Skilled in the operation of a motor vehicle
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of property procedures for handling ACSO property
  • Knowledge of storeroom and inventory methods and procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and ordinances pertaining to the issuance, control, and disposal of government property
  • Knowledge of applicable agency directives, procedures, and rules concerning property control and distribution
  • Knowledge of inventory control procedures and modern office practices concerning record keeping and inventory control
  • Knowledge of purchasing, requisition, and stock requisition procedures
  • Knowledge of the layout of ACSO’s facilities, including off-site locations
  • Skilled in operating computer and other types of office equipment
  • Ability to maintain supplies/equipment inventories
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and carry them through to completion
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and display discretion when appropriate
  • Ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with ACSO personnel, co-workers, other agencies, and the general public
