Position Summary:
The Pre-Certification Specialist is responsible for obtaining prior authorizations and insurance pre-certifications for procedures, imaging studies, and surgeries. This role ensures timely and accurate verification of coverage to support efficient patient care and revenue cycle management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify insurance benefits and obtain pre-certifications for all scheduled procedures and diagnostic testing.
- Communicate with insurance companies, patients, and clinical staff to ensure approvals are received prior to service.
- Track pending authorizations and follow up as needed to prevent delays.
- Document all communications and authorizations accurately in the patient record.
- Collaborate with schedulers, medical assistants, nurses, and billing staff to ensure a smooth process.
- Stay current with payer requirements and pre-certification policies.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1–2 years of experience in medical insurance verification, pre-certification, or billing (surgical or specialty experience preferred).
- Knowledge of insurance plans, CPT/ICD-10 codes, and medical terminology.
- Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
