Job Title - Secondary Supervisor
Supervised by/Reports to: Secondary Coordinator
Supervises: Certified and classified personnel as assigned
FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Goal:
- To provide effective supervision and direction of secondary school programs and instruction throughout the school system.
- To plan, implement, monitor and evaluate secondary curriculum and instruction activities, professional development, and programs to improve student achievement in the school system.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from an accredited university.
- Valid Alabama certificate in educational leadership, administration, supervision or equivalent.
- Previous successful classroom experience; administrative experience preferred.
- Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama child Protection Act of 199 and Act No. 202-457.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and support strategic and operation goals of the system in areas or responsibility.
- Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum design and development.
- Ability to organize, coordinate and present professional development programs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and support strategic and operational goals of the system in areas of responsibility.
- Ability to supervise and evaluate designated personnel, manage budgets, and develop curriculum and programming specific to the needs of students.
- Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
- Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
- Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
- Monitors the assigned area of supervision to ensure compliance with the policies and guidelines of the State Board of Education, AdvancED/Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and the local school system.
- Strives to ensure that all instructional programs are consistent with the state and local courses of study and to assist teachers and principals in the effective implementation of those programs.
- Visits classrooms for the purpose of formative observation and provides commendations and/or recommendations to teachers as appropriate for instructional improvement.
- Assists any teacher in classroom organization, management and planning as requested by the local principal.
- Assists in planning and coordinating appropriate and effective in-service activities designed to increase the level of instructional performance.
- Assists in the development and implementation of the systemwide curriculum and instruction program.
- Assists in the development of procedural guidelines related to the instructional program.
- Assists in the selection of supplementary instructional materials, equipment, and books for the implementation of the curriculum.
- Assists in the administration and evaluation of the system’s testing program.
- Assists in the interpretation and communication of test results and ensures their appropriate use.
- Assists school personnel with the utilization of technological advances.
- Serves as a resource for all instructional personnel.
- Supervises and evaluates staff assigned in accordance with school system procedures and schedules.
- Performs duties in a courteous and professional manner.
- Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
- Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
- Works cooperatively and productively with the Superintendent and other administrative staff to ensure the system’s vision, goals and strategies are implemented and providing all pertinent data to all appropriate personnel within the designated time frame.
- Engages in professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and effective leadership.
- Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
- Attends conferences and training sessions to improve skills and programs.
- Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
- Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
- Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory.
- Uses effective collaboration skills to work as an effective team member.
- Serves on committees, representative bodies, task forces, or as a system delegate as needed.
- Demonstrates support for the school system and its goals and priorities.
- Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
- Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
- Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
Terms of Employment: Twelve month position in accordance with Board’s salary schedule.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Baldwin County Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
