ELEMENTARY TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree, or higher, from an accredited institution in subject area.
- Valid Alabama teacher certification for elementary level and/or specialized area.
- Such alternatives or additional qualifications as the board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
Reports to: Principal
Job Goal: To provide students the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Contract: 187 Days FLSA: Exempt
Job Duties and Tasks for: Elementary School Teacher
- Meets and instructs the students in the locations and at the time designated.
- Demonstrates a knowledge of instructional area.
- Demonstrates acceptable use of the English language in written and oral communication.
- Determines student abilities, aptitude, needs, and interests.
- Establishes goals consistent with individual student needs and curriculum requirements.
- Plans for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of such planning upon request of principal.
- Plans and provides for involvement of students in the learning process.
- Establishes and maintains a positive environment which motivates and enables students to achieve learning goals.
- Requires students to maintain acceptable standards of classroom behavior.
- Plans for and utilizes resources which motivate and enable students to achieve learning goals.
- Plans for and utilizes evaluation techniques which motivate and enable students to achieve learning goals.
- Appraises the effectiveness of teaching strategies, materials, and instructional program.
- Shares responsibility for the total school program.
- Maintains records as required by law, policy, and administrative regulations.
- Models exemplary personal characteristics.
- Establishes relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual.
- Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism.
- Designs and implements an individual professional development plan.
Evaluation
Performance evaluation shall be in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policies and administrative procedures and guidelines.
