Role Description
Alabama A&M University is seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Huntsville, AL. The Assistant Professor will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, mentoring students, and supervising research activities. Responsibilities also include developing a research program, securing funding through grants, publishing scholarly work, and contributing to the department's academic and community engagement initiatives. Faculty members are expected to participate in university and departmental service activities.
Qualifications
PhD
- in Physics or closely related field with specialization in areas such as Quantum Physics/Quantum Computing/Nuclear Physics/Engineering Physics/Plasma, Physics /Materials Science, Optics/Lasers, Ambient Energy Systems, or Space Science.
- Prior teaching experience 1-3 years, strong classroom management skills, and a clear understanding of best practices in pedagogy.
- Proven ability to conduct independent research and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.
- Experience with obtaining research funding and securing grants from competitive sources.
- Strong mentoring and advising skills to support students in their academic and career aspirations.
- Proficiency in the use and application of modern laboratory techniques, instrumentation, and computational tools in scientific research and instruction.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration abilities within academic and research settings.
