Server Systems Engineer (Contract)
Location: Dublin, CA (Hybrid) - Onsite Tuesday-Thursday
Duration: 3-month contract (potential extension or conversion)
Rate: $61-$71/hr
Overview
Our client is seeking a hands-on Server Systems Engineer to support enterprise server infrastructure, virtualization, and data center operations. This role will play a key part in the organization's migration from VMware vSphere to Microsoft Hyper-V and will be involved in a wide range of day-to-day infrastructure engineering and administration activities.
The ideal candidate will have strong Microsoft Hyper-V experience, familiarity with Storage Spaces Direct (S2D), SCVMM, and HPE server environments, and be comfortable working in both project-based and operational support capacities.
Responsibilities
- Support Windows Server 2025 architecture, engineering, and implementation activities
- Design, deploy, administer, and optimize Microsoft Hyper-V environments
- Support VMware vSphere to Hyper-V migration initiatives
- Deploy and manage virtual machines using Hyper-V and SCVMM
- Assist with Storage Spaces Direct (S2D) deployments and administration
- Implement and support Windows clustering and high-availability solutions
- Develop and maintain server standards based on application and workload requirements
- Deploy and support HPE ProLiant rack and blade server infrastructure
- Administer and troubleshoot HPE iLO and HPE OneView environments
- Provide day-to-day infrastructure and data center support
- Perform infrastructure assessments, documentation, knowledge transfer, and best-practice recommendations
- Gather technical and business requirements from stakeholders
- Provide daily status updates, including accomplishments, next steps, and blockers
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of server infrastructure, systems administration, or systems engineering experience
- Strong hands-on experience supporting Microsoft Hyper-V environments
- Experience deploying and managing VMs through Hyper-V and SCVMM
- Experience with Windows Server 2022 and/or Windows Server 2025 environments
- Experience with HPE server hardware, including ProLiant systems
- Experience with HPE OneView and iLO administration
- Experience supporting enterprise data center environments
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently while taking direction from client stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- 7 years of enterprise server infrastructure engineering experience
- VMware vSphere administration experience
- Experience supporting or participating in VMware-to-Hyper-V migration projects
- Experience with Windows clustering and high-availability solutions
- Understanding of Storage Spaces Direct (S2D) and how it is implemented and used
