Akkodis is seeking a Staff / Senior Substation Engineer for a Contract job with a client in Cary, NC. The ideal candidate must have strong hands‑on experience in substation engineering with expertise in either physical design or protection & control (P&C) and the ability to support projects through the full lifecycle.
Rate Range: $58/hour to $60/hour; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.
Staff / Senior Substation Engineer job responsibilities include:
Design and support substation engineering projects from conceptual phase through construction, including physical layout and P&C systems.
Develop substation design packages, calculations, equipment specifications, cost estimates, and bills of materials.
Perform engineering calculations such as grounding, insulation, AC/DC systems, voltage drop, and cable/conduit sizing.
Apply industry standards (IEEE, NESC) and ensure compliance with internal QA/QC and client requirements.
Support field inspections, technical reviews, and troubleshooting to ensure design accuracy and constructability.
Collaborate with project managers and cross‑functional teams to meet project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field from an ABET-accredited program.
3+ years of experience in substation engineering (consulting experience preferred).
Hands‑on experience in either physical design or protection & control (P&C) (required).
Knowledge of substation calculations, electrical systems, and design processes.
Strong understanding of industry standards (IEEE, NESC).
Excellent communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and mentoring abilities.
Preferred:
EIT certification
PE license

Pay Details: $58.00 to $60.00 per hour
