Contract: 6 months Extendable
Pay Rate: $45hr. -$51/hr. (The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors)
Job Description:
We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer I to join the Aerospace Wheel & Braking Systems Integrated Supply Chain team at the South Bend facility. In this role, you will support manufacturing operations by improving production processes, ensuring equipment readiness, and maintaining manufacturing efficiency. You will be trained as the Process Owner and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for High Temperature Furnaces, where you will oversee process compliance, equipment performance, operator training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
This is an excellent opportunity for an entry-level engineer who enjoys hands-on manufacturing, problem-solving, and working in a fast-paced aerospace production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, and productivity.
- Serve as the Process Owner for High Temperature Furnace operations after training.
- Monitor, analyze, and document process data to ensure compliance with engineering specifications.
- Train, mentor, certify, and audit manufacturing operators on assigned processes.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and assist with fault diagnosis and corrective actions.
- Coordinate equipment readiness and communicate maintenance schedules with cross-functional teams.
- Participate in project planning, outage planning, and process improvement initiatives.
- Review and maintain manufacturing work instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Drive technical solutions to improve manufacturing reliability and operational performance.
- Identify and prioritize manufacturing and maintenance activities.
- Approve and audit manufacturing work for quality and process compliance.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Maintenance, Operations, Facilities, and Engineering teams.
- Analyze equipment layout, workflow, assembly methods, and workforce utilization to maximize manufacturing efficiency.
- Support continuous improvement, safety, and operational excellence initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related Engineering discipline.
- 0–2 years of manufacturing engineering or related experience (internships/co-op experience considered).
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including:
- Climbing stairs and ladders.
- Walking several miles during a shift.
- Working occasionally in warm environments (80–100°F).
- Good manual dexterity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with manufacturing processes or industrial equipment.
- Familiarity with PLCs, DCS, and HMI systems.
- Knowledge of SAP and Operating System (HOS) or similar ERP/Lean manufacturing systems.
- CAD software experience.
- Understanding of FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, and problem-solving methodologies.
- Knowledge of mechanical manufacturing processes.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Project management or project coordination experience.
- Experience with facilities management or manufacturing operations is a plus.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to learn new technologies and adapt quickly.
