About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Lab Assistant to support the management of a growing fleet of hardware devices and lab spaces. This is a hands-on, onsite role responsible for day-to-day lab operations, including inventory management, device tracking, test systems, consumables, automation racks, and lab expansion.
The ideal candidate will have 3 years of lab management experience, strong experience with macOS, and the ability to work with large databases and Excel, including creating pivot tables. Experience with scripting and automation is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate lab space allocation, layout, communication, and expansion.
- Manage inventory of hardware devices, parts, test equipment, consumables, and other lab supplies.
- Create and maintain processes for tracking the use and location of lab devices and consumables.
- Conduct regular inventory audits, verify device locations, and perform inventory cycle counts.
- Manage device check-ins, tracking, secure storage, lifecycle management, and end-of-life disposal.
- Establish protocols for the use and tracking of inventory and test devices.
- Partner with QA and Systems teams to plan and procure lab consumables, modules, and test devices.
- Run automated test scripts, collect test data, and update results in dashboards.
- Set up automation test racks and assist with lab layouts based on equipment, network, utilities, safety, access, and ergonomic requirements.
- Maintain accurate inventory tagging for all lab equipment, including cables, monitors, keyboards, mice, power supplies, flash drives, and other accessories.
- Coordinate with Facilities teams on lab upgrades, maintenance, network requirements, test benches, furniture, lab cleanup, and other operational needs.
- Create and communicate schedules for lab activities and upgrades.
- Manage the proper disposal and recycling of electronic waste and other lab materials in accordance with company policies.
- Coordinate equipment deliveries with internal and external delivery partners.
- Pick up, transfer, and manage devices across local Austin buildings as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 3 years of experience in lab management, hardware lab operations, or a similar environment.
- Strong hands-on experience working with macOS.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including creating pivot tables.
- Experience searching, organizing, and managing information in large databases and Excel tables.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals.
- Experience working with automated testing and running test scripts.
- Strong experience managing hardware inventory, devices, and lab equipment.
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing approximately 30–50 lbs.
- Strong organizational, communication, and attention-to-detail skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with scripting, programming, or automation.
- Experience with Python, Bash, Ansible/AWX, or Splunk.
- Experience setting up and maintaining automation test racks.
- Understanding of Unit, Functional, System, Performance, Technical, and Operational Testing.
- Experience working with QA, Systems, or hardware engineering teams.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
