Electronics Monitoring Engineer
Hybrid in Melbourne | Ongoing Contract
About the Role
We are seeking a technically minded, analytical, and self-driven Electronics Monitoring Engineer to support remote diagnostics for systems while contributing to the advancement of AI-driven maintenance tools. This role monitors equipment health, investigates failures, drives resolutions, and helps structure technical data to improve machine learning outcomes.
What You’ll Do
• Monitor locomotive hardware/software health and troubleshoot remote issues
• Analyze system and telemetry data to identify performance trends and failure modes
• Perform daily data mining and root-cause analysis using IT databases
• Remotely resolve malfunctioning units or escalate when appropriate
• Validate field fixes and support software rollouts and upgrades
• Partner with systems, software, and field service teams across global environments
• Lead technical discussions, share insights, and support customer interface meetings
• Index, classify, and manage technical documentation to support AI systems
• Contribute to AI/ML efforts by curating datasets, assessing gaps, and reviewing model outputs
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
• Experience with UNIX/Linux command line or embedded environments
• Ability to work with IT databases (Clarify, Access, SQL, etc.)
• Strong scripting capability (Excel automation, VBScript, Python, Perl, etc.)
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills
• Self-starter attitude with the ability to lead tasks independently
• Interest in AI/ML concepts, text processing, document indexing, or NLP workflows
