Collections Specialist

Akkodis is seeking a Collections Specialist for one of our clients in Lancaster, NY.

Rate Range: $27.00 to $35.00/hour; the rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

The Collections Specialist is responsible for managing customer accounts, monitoring outstanding balances, and ensuring the timely collection of payments. This role works closely with customers and internal teams to resolve payment issues, reduce delinquent accounts, and maintain positive customer relationships while supporting cash flow objectives.

This position is onsite.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor accounts receivable aging reports and prioritize collection activities based on account status and risk.
• Contact customers by phone, email, and written correspondence regarding past-due invoices and outstanding balances.
• Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, payment disputes, and other account-related issues.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of collection activities and customer communications.
• Partner with Sales, Customer Service, Finance, and other internal teams to resolve outstanding account concerns.
• Review customer payment history and trends to identify potential collection or credit risks.
• Reconcile customer accounts and ensure payments are accurately applied.
• Prepare weekly and monthly reports outlining collection activity, account status, and outstanding balances.
• Escalate significantly delinquent or high-risk accounts to management when appropriate.
• Support month-end closing activities related to accounts receivable.
• Assist with evaluating customer creditworthiness and recommending adjustments to credit limits.
• Ensure collection activities comply with established policies, accounting procedures, and contractual requirements.
• Maintain professional and positive customer relationships while using effective collection practices.

Required Qualifications

• 5 years of collections experience with a strong emphasis on phone-based collections.
• Experience managing accounts receivable and past-due customer accounts.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to professionally handle payment disputes and challenging customer conversations.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and account reconciliation skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
