ABOUT THE ROLE
Ajax Fitness is a premium performance and longevity gym in Aspen, Colorado. We're hiring an Assistant Operations Manager — a front-desk-forward role that keeps the facility running at a high standard every day.
This is not a passive front desk job. You'll greet members, run tours, close memberships, manage admin in our gym software, keep the facility clean and presentation-ready, coordinate the team schedule, and keep ownership informed. When the owner is traveling, you run the operation.
SCHEDULE
Monday through Friday | 29-35 hours/week
Shifts rotate between morning (7:00 AM-2:00 PM) and afternoon/evening (3:00 PM-8:00 PM). Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday morning shifts are a firm requirement. Wednesday and Friday shifts may be adjustable by mutual arrangement. Sun/Sat may also be an option to work with your schedule.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet members and visitors; maintain a professional front desk presence throughout each shift
- Conduct gym tours and close membership sign-ups; explain services and options confidently
- Manage leads in CRM; follow up with inquiries and trial visitors within 24 hours
- Answer all calls and member communications; reply to all inquiries within the same business day
- Maintain daily hygiene and tidiness across all gym areas, equipment, and common spaces
- Complete opening and closing checklists each shift; ensure the facility always reflects a premium standard
- Process membership enrollments, renewals, freezes, and cancellations in Wellyx (our gym management software)
- Maintain accurate member records — contact info, payment details, membership status
- Own the staff schedule — build weekly shifts, manage swap requests, fill gaps proactively
- Deliver a brief written weekly operations summary to ownership every Friday
- When owner is traveling: assume full operational authority within defined thresholds and provide daily check-ins
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Prior experience in gym, fitness, hospitality, or a similar customer-facing environment
- Comfortable and efficient on a computer — significant daily admin work is a core part of this role
- Sales ability: experience explaining membership options and closing sign-ups without being pushy
- Professional, polished, and representative of a premium brand at all times
- Reliable Monday-Friday availability; this role requires consistent on-site presence
- Self-directed: you notice what needs to be done and do it without being asked
