General Position Summary

The Concrete Superintendent is responsible for overseeing project(s), field crews, and foreman. This position requires a high level of proficiency in leadership and large concrete construction, ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with AIS Infrastructure's safety standards and project specifications.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • To provide leadership: establish/maintain efficient & effective working relationships with staff.
  • Coordinate and supervise construction activities to ensure project completion within budget and on schedule.
  • Manage all phases of concrete construction, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Lead and direct concrete crews, ensuring proper execution of tasks, and addressing any challenges that arise.
  • Manage field operations and coordinate with other personnel, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Takes personal responsibility for fostering a safe workplace by following safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches, in preparation of layout to determine dimensions and type of material required.
  • Supervise and coordinate foreman activities, production schedules and estimate work requirements for completion of job assignments and schedule requirements.
  • Implement and enforce quality control processes to ensure that concrete work meets or exceeds industry standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify and address any issues related to concrete quality and workmanship.
  • Resolve construction issues and conflicts, including coordination with project stakeholders.
  • Manage project documentation, including daily reports, progress updates, and change orders.
  • Understand the means and methods of construction associated with concrete construction (including reinforced concrete structures, culverts, walls, bridges and slip form paving etc.)
  • Ability to construct, erect, install and repair structures, scaffolding and framework using hand and power tools.
  • Adhere to project timelines and deadlines, ensuring work is completed efficiently and accurately.

Required Job Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance to access secured facilities, including military bases.
  • Proficiency in carpentry techniques, including measuring, cutting, shaping, and joining materials.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and construction plans accurately.
  • Ability to manage and enforce safety and company polices with Foreman and crew members.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure precise and accurate workmanship.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and follow instructions.
  • Ability to have a flexible work schedule to meet project schedule and location requirements.
  • Maintain flexibility with changing deadlines and fast-paced environment, as required by workload and business priorities.
  • Travel will be required. Must be willing to travel and work from project sites across the Southeast for long periods of time.

Education, Knowledge & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field preferred.
  • Relevant certifications, such as Certified Construction Manager (CCM), are preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the construction industry, preferably with a focus on heavy civil projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction codes, regulations, and best practices.
  • Familiarity with construction management software and tools.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Concrete Superintendent within the construction industry, again preferably with a focus on heavy civil projects.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and regulations related to concrete work.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS

  • Work is primarily performed outdoors at construction sites.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions and physical demands of lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE) is essential.
  • Travel will be required. Must be willing to travel and work from project sites for long periods of time.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and construction plans.
  • Familiarity with relevant software tools for project documentation and communication.
  • Effective problem-solving skills to address unexpected challenges during carpentry work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with other construction professionals.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet project deadlines.

Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Physical requirements include lifting heavy materials, operating tools, and standing for extended periods.
  • Mental demands include the ability to understand and interpret complex construction plans and execute carpentry tasks accurately.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, adapting to changing environments as needed.
