What are the responsibilities and job description for the Customer Service position at AIRPORT GARDEN CENTER?

Airport Garden Center is seeking someone energetic and motivated to join our customer service team. Duties include front counter customer care, cashiering, product carryout, animal care, and store cleaning. Must be willing to work weekends, work in any weather and repeatedly lift 25 pounds.

Part-Full time seasonal 3 month position available. Part time in April, full time May, Part-full time June. $16.50/hr starting wage.

Airport Garden Center is a family owned and operated garden center started in 1977. Our store offers top quality plants, soils, fertilizers and a large selection of garden, pet and farm supplies. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff is dedicated to providing our customers with a relaxed, family-friendly environment. Our goal is to provide our customers with the knowledge needed to make the best choices in products, and to be successful gardeners and pet owners.

Skills We Are Looking For:

  • Attention to detail, organization and accuracy.
  • Basic computer and typing skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry products to customers vehicles.
  • Experience with or desire to learn about counting and handling money.
  • Friendly and confident phone skills.
  • Basic knowledge of plants (preferred).

Personality We Are Looking For:

  • A friendly, confident individual who is very happy to talk to complete strangers all day.
  • Someone who loves to find the correct answer to customers questions, and who is never willing to just say “I don’t know”.
  • A person who works well in a very fast paced environment, and who can multitask even when things are hectic.
  • Someone who can follow a list of tasks or to-dos without supervision.
  • A person willing to take on any tasks assigned with a positive attitude.
  • A teamwork driven person, who enjoys working together with other staff to deliver customers the best possible shopping experience.
  • Someone who is willing to work in all weather conditions, and in all areas of our store when needed. This includes working with and cleaning up after animals, plants and people on a daily basis.

This Is Not the Right Job for You If:

  • You prefer a quiet and slow paced work environment. Our cashiers are often helping multiple customers, answering the phone, carrying out products and researching questions all at the same time.
  • If you are not able to commit to a work schedule that includes all weekends and some after-hours training, and requires being here on time for every shift. We are not able to accommodate vacation time during our spring season.
  • You are not willing to work without personal use of your cell phone except during scheduled breaks.
  • If you have no interest in learning about plants and gardening. Our staff is learning from each other every day and retaining information and product knowledge to better help our customers. The desire to learn about the products we sell is a must!
  • If you are looking for a job that has insurance benefits. Our seasonal positions do not include health or dental benefits.

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: From $16.50 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
