What are the responsibilities and job description for the HVAC Installer position at Air Force Heating & Air?
HVAC Installers are responsible for installing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and other equipment following manufacture specifications and company requirements. The job entails installing HVAC equipment in customers’ homes, including furnace, air handlers, indoor coils, UV lights, air cleaners, and dehumidifiers, working under minimum supervision. In addition, Installers install outdoor coils and outdoor units, as well as repair refrigerants, compressors, etc. The role is responsible for providing knowledge, training, and guidance to HVAC installer helpers for them to develop the right skills to be able to perform HVAC installation jobs effectively.

- Perform installation of HVAC related equipment following company policies and manufacturer’s specifications
- Carry out wiring of both low and line voltage to cooling and heating equipment
- Perform installation of copper refrigerant lines to air conditioning units, including brazing and soldering
- Perform installation of flex and sheet metal duct systems in light commercial and residential buildings
- Ensure connection of gas lines to heating equipment is properly done
- Determine the right material needed for installation work by premeasuring jobs
- Receive all materials and equipment required for each job, confirm and load them into company vehicle
- Leads lowerlevel HVAC technicians in troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair.
- Develops heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) system modification plans as needed.
- Maintain company vehicle, ensuring cleanliness and organization, both inside and out.
- Researches and selects materials for HVAC systems installation, repair, and maintenance as needed.
- Commercial and residential installation of condensers, coils, furnaces, package and roof top units, mini split systems, thermostats, high efficiency air filters, air scrubbers.
- Installation and/or design of ducts for ventilation purposes.
- Installation and wiring of High Efficiency systems, zoning, humidifiers, Comfort Guard, and other peripherals.
- Quality control on layout, cleanliness, sealing the system, and overall install details.
- Completion of daily assignments/checklist in residential crawl space and attics.
- Complete required paperwork including daily time/payroll sheets and submit in a timely manner.
- Ability to teach all company sponsored training classes, if needed.
- EPA and NATE certified
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

- High School Diploma or GED
- 510 years’ experience in the HVAC industry as a journeyman installer.
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
- Ability to lead and train staff and/or students.
- Ability to develop heating, ventilating, and air conditioning system modification plans.
- Ability to read schematics and blueprints and/or technical manuals.
- Complete knowledge of mechanical systems, building materials, and basic building codes as related to HVAC.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with a strong desire to exceed customer expectations.
- Results driven in a highenergy environment.
- Proficiency with MS Office products and advanced Phone Apps
- Attention to detail.
- Must pass MVR screening and maintain a good driving record.
- Must be able to follow directions and work independently.
- Ability to read, write and speak in English.
- Physical Strength: Walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, crawling, stooping, reaching (including overhead), climbing ladders/stairs and lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis
- Environment: Work in varying temperatures including nonclimatecontrolled areas occasionally with extreme temperatures
- Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
- Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
- Schedule: Must be available to work nights and weekends, on a rotating basis, to service emergency needs of our customers
